Reading by 3rd Grade

Outcomes:

  • By Spring of 2025, 90% of our multilingual learners in grades 1-3 will meet their expected growth as per the WIDA individualized growth measure.
  • By June 2025, 90% of our students in grades PreK-3 will meet EOY benchmark, based on VALLSS, our new literacy screener. 
    • We will improve our outcome from our Fall 2024 VALLSS data to our Spring 2025 VALLSS data. 
    • Based on the spring 2024 iReady screener, we have ended this year with 49% of students in Tier 1, 35% in Tier 2, and 17% in Tier 3. 
      • We will update this area when we have our Fall 2024 VALLSS data.

Strategies

  • Strategy 1: Increase efficiency of instructional delivery to ensure all students have daily access to all components of the language arts block as outlined in the new core curriculum.
  • Strategy 2: Increase use of data to plan instruction and monitor progress during intervention to ensure that students demonstrating risk master foundational skills.
  • Strategy 3: Increase opportunities for English Language Development through use of embedded strategies during whole group instruction and intentional small group instruction focused on specific student needs.

Elementary School Math

Outcomes:

  • Students in grades 4 and 5 will show growth in their SOL scores from the previous year. 
    • Needs to be targeted to MLL - focused on sub groups within math.
  • By June 2025, 50% of our students in grades 1-5 will be in the tier 1 placement of expected growth at the EOY, based on the iReady screener.

Strategies

  • Strategy 1: Improve teachers' implementation of Framework for Engaging & Student-Centered Mathematics Instruction.
  • Strategy 2: Increase teachers' content knowledge and implementation of the 2023 FCPS mathematics program of studies.
  • Strategy 3: Increase teachers' implementation of strategies and conversation structures that increase academic talk between students related to Shift 4- from show and tell to share and compare.

Science 

Outcome:

By June 2025, 70% of our students in 5th Grade will pass the SOL.

Strategies

  • Strategy 1: Increase opportunities to develop science content vocabulary through inquiry-based learning, such as during the Explore of the 5E learning model, followed by explicit instruction during the Explain.
  • Strategy 2: Increase student access to high quality science instruction through sufficient time on the master schedule and use of up-to-date FCPS curriculum.
  • Strengthen the use of scaffolds to support students' development of rigorous science and engineering practices, including modeling scientific questioning, using graphic organizers.
