The Elementary and Secondary School Emergency Relief (ESSER III) is a federal grant which requires that spending be used in specific areas.  Part of the Fairfax County Public Schools spending plan identifies funding to be used for Unfinished Learning and Student Academic and Social, Emotional, Mental Health (Wellness) Needs.

FCPS Strategic Plan

English Language Arts (ELA)

Goal

By June 2023, 100% will experience a minimum of one year's growth as measured by the iReady Universal Screener.

Strategy 1

All NSES students will participate in daily, systematic, explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, and morphology in the core Tier 1 language arts block.

Strategy 2

Teachers will target students who need reading intervention and will create By Name, By Need instructional plans to measure progress in Tier 2 instruction.

Strategy 3

We will Implement Tier 3 interventions for students identified more than three years below grade level.

Mathematics

Goal

By June 2023, 75% of students will pass the math SOL. 75% will score 30 or over in the Patterns, Functions and Algebra Reporting Category. All subgroups at 75% using SOL unadjusted data in math.

Strategy 1

All students will continue daily number sense routines

Strategy 2

All NSES Students will utilize problem solving skills to develop conceptual understanding of mathematics.

Strategy 3

Teachers will target students who need math intervention and will create By Name, By Need instructional plans to measure progress in Tier 2 and Tier 3 instruction.

Wellness

Goal

By the end of the year, 75% of students will self-reflect favorably on the self-management area of the SEL screener.

Strategy 1

Provide Tier 1 instruction for self-monitoring strategies and opportunities for reflection.

Strategy 2

Teachers will target students who need Tier 2 and Tier 3 self-management intervention.

Strategy 3

We will strengthen adult and student wellness by improving student and family engagement.

Goal

By June 2023, 100% of students will advance one level according to the POG Skill Growth Rubric through the learning targets of the communication skills.

Strategy 1

Affirm students where they are at the beginning, middle and end of year.

Strategy 2

 Implement grade level communication POG FCPS lessons.

Strategy 3

Implement school-wide Responsive Classroom approach to support explicit teaching of all POG attributes
