10 Reasons North Springfield Is Special
North Springfield Elementary School is a vibrant community dedicated to fostering personal growth, respect, and a love of learning in every student. We strive to create a supportive environment where students are empowered to reach their highest potential and develop the skills they need to succeed. Beyond the classroom, North Springfield provides opportunities for holistic development through engaging after-school programs, including academic enrichment, arts, and cultural clubs, that encourage curiosity and build confidence.
Strong PTA/Community Connection
NSES has always had a strong working and supportive relationship with our PTA. Our PTA co-sponsors many of our events throughout the school and also has their own events that include Movie Nights, Bingo Nights, and Heritage Night.
Purple Star School
NSES was one of the first schools to become a Purple Star School in Fairfax County. We are proud of that designation, our celebration, and our work that honors our families that serve our country- past and present.
Staff Recognition
NSES has a tremendous staff! Every year, our staff members are nominated to move on to the region and county levels as distinguished educators. We continue to have staff members nominated for FCPS CARES awards as well. We are very proud and thankful for all our staff members.
Lights, Camera, Action![]()
One event that is not only looked forward to by our community, but is also looked forward to by all our students when they get to 5th grade is our 5th grade play production. The 5th grade students work hard all year long to put on an incredibly impressive musical. Their hard work culminates with 2 sold out, standing room only shows in the spring.
School Culture
NSES recently went through a process to re-write our mission and vision statements. However, it is our values that encapsulate how we approach each and every day: FUN, KINDNESS, COLLABORATION, BELONGING - these are at the core of all we do.
Eco Club
Our Eco Club is one of our strongest student clubs. We have won the prestigious green “Get-to-Green” banners and are well on our way to earning our third flag in a row.
Student Centered Programs and Learning
We strive to learn in authentic and student-centered ways. This includes Project Based Learning (PBL), Makerspace, our Trash to Panache assembly, Honor Choir, our Student Council Association, and our student-run morning news show.
Signature Events
We have a number of events that are special to NSES. Some include: fall and spring Top Ten mile run program and race, “Bring Your Parent to PE Week”, the True Book Fair, the Community Spring Fair, the Speed Stacks competition, and our winter Sing-A-Long program.
Preschool Program
NSES has been home to the largest special education preschool program for a long time. We have 5 Preschool Autism Classes, 8 Non-Categorical classes and 2 Pre-K Inclusion classrooms.
Supportive Environment
NSES has a warm, calm, nurturing culture where everyone supports each other. We believe in doing what it takes to ensure all students feel successful and valued. We focus on the fun of learning. We celebrate each other through our Gratitude Wall and our Kindness Celebrations throughout the year.
